Projects
As a part of our training programme we aim to teach cadets new skills and develop existing ones, with projects playing a key part in this. Currently, we run 3 projects within the squadron - robotics, model building and radio communications. Each project offers cadets a unique challenge and a chance to learn skills that will prove invaluable when applying for a job or apprenticeship or a place at college or university.
Although we currently have 3 main projects, cadets are always encouraged to suggest new ones. For example, we're currently working on putting together a first aid project that will not only teach cadets first aid, but also how to mock up accident scenarios with fake wounds and fake blood to help better prepare them for the annual first aid competition.

RoboticsOur most popular project by far, the robotics project is an offshoot of 870 (Dreghorn) Squadron's Typhoon robot that competed in the Robot Wars television programme. After Typhoon was retired, the Rampaging Chariots Guild rolled out this project to Air Cadet squadrons across the country.
Aside from building a robot that can compete in the annual Rampaging Chariots competition, this project also aims to generate an interest in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) among cadets. The core skills a cadet can learn and develop in this project:

Model Building
Model Building is another project where cadets can enter their efforts into an annual competition. With multiple categories in the competition, cadets are not just limited to aircraft models. In fact, some of our best modellers have never completed an aircraft model in their life.

Radio Communications
Not only can cadets in the Radio Communications project take part in the annual radio competition, they can also go on a variety of courses to expand their knowledge and gain extra practical experience using the radios. The project has been particularly useful to a few of our ex-cadets who have gone into the Forces.

Themed Projects
Every so often the Squadron runs a themed project for a month. Themed projects allow cadets to explore a topic they know little or nothing about and culminates in cadets presenting their findings to the rest of the Squadron. The presentation can take many forms and is only limited by the cadets' imaginations.
