Camps
Every year cadets have the opportunity to attend a number of camps. Some camps take place on RAF bases, others at specially designed outdoors centres and some are overseas.
Blues Camps
Blues camps are typically 3 times year (Easter, Summer & Autumn) and take place on an RAF base. The base selected to host the camp changes each time to give cadets a variety of location and a chance to see what various bases specialise in.
Cadets are given interactive tours of different sections of the base and a chance to speak with serving members of the RAF about what their job entails. Previous camps have seen cadets get the opportunity to meet with pilots & aircrew, firemen and military police. In some cases, cadets have even been able to get hands on with some of the equipment used by RAF personnel. Blues camps usually include one or more visits to the local town/city and sites of interest which vary depending on where the camp is located. On top of all of this, cadets attending blues camps usually get some time on the range to shoot for the various marksman badges and the chance to fly in RAF aircraft. |
Adventure Training Camps
Each year the Squadron gets an allocation of places for a week long camp at one of the two National Air Cadet Activity Training Centres (NACATC's) located at Windermere in the Lake District and in Llanbeder, Wales. The NACATC's are used as a base of operations for a wide variety of activities including rock climbing, abseiling, kayaking, mountain biking and hill walking.
South East Scotland Wing also run an annual camp called Blue Eagle, where cadets can take part in various adventure training activities. |
Greens Camps
Greens camps are named so as cadets spend most of their time wearing their MTP (greens) uniform. These camps concentrate on shooting, camouflage and concealment and fieldcraft skills, with a large night exercise usually included in the program.
The RAF Regiment also run a special greens camp for cadets interested in joining the RAF Regiment. These camps are typically more physically demanding and have a higher application criteria (high level of fitness & prior weapons training on the L98A2). |
Overseas Camps
International Air Cadet Exchange
Each year a number of cadets aged 17 - 19 have the opportunity to take part in the International Air Cadet Exchange (IACE). For 15 days every July and August cadets get a taste of other cultures and another great cadet experience. The IACE program involves Cadet Organisations from over twenty member nations from across the globe and each member nation plays host to a party of foreign cadets and staff.
